Kayla Van Langen
Coach Chung is a University of Iowa Student Athlete Alum, where he completed his undergraduate studies as a full scholarship athlete. He was an All-Big 10 athlete his freshman year for the Hawkeyes. He is on the All-Time list for the Hawkeyes for both the indoor 400m (47.65) and the outdoor 100m (10.40). He was also the outdoor Big 10 Champion in the 1600m relay (3:07.05). Chung’s leadership was crucial to him and his team’s success as he was named team captain for the Hawkeyes during his time there.
He comes to ITFC with a successful coaching career. He coached at Benson High School in Omaha, NE for 6 years. He specialized in coaching the 400m runners. During his 6 years there, his 4x400m relay teams won the Class A State Title twice. He also coached three 400m runners to top 3 finishes at the state meet in four years.
Coach Chung currently works for the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics as the Project Management Office Director.
In addition to coaching track at city high, jay welp has volunteered his time to motivate and design workouts for the track and field club.
Beginning his college running career at Morningstar, welp is now a locally renowned runner feating the second all time Iowa Road 5k in a time of 14:18 as well as an impressive array of personal bests in the half marathon (1:06:15), 10k (29:50), 3k (8:23) and mile (4:10).
